The Crude Awakening - the blockade of Coryton Oil refinery.

Crude Oil Awakening is a coalition of climate change activist groups.
On Saturday Oct 16 they shut the only entrance to Coryton oil refinery in Essex, UK with the aim of
highlighting the issues of climate change and the burning of fossil fuels. The blockade meant that a great
number of trucks with oil were not able to leave the refinery during the day of action. A group of women
locked themselves under vans blocking the road into the refinery and hundreds of other activists managed
to set up wooden tripods further up the road, creating a party atmosphere which lasted till sunset.
The police were caught off-guard and after the activists had established their blockades they were left
alone till the action was called of by the activists themselves and the roads were cleared again.
